I Set My Thermostat Too High In Hopes to Heat Faster

I knew that I’d have to take care of my Heating & A/C system once purchasing a house, even though I didn’t think exactly what that entailed until after moving in, one morning, when the temperature dropped overnight, I went to my thermostat & turned the thermostat from 66 degrees to 75 degrees.

When I became a first time homeowner, I was truly dumb & naive regaurding my Heating & A/C system, then before owning a house, I lived with my parents & then went off to school where I lived in a dorm or student housing! I never had to think about the Heating & A/C system other than what I wanted to set my thermostat to. I was responsible for paying the daily utility bill while I was living in student housing, even though I wasn’t responsible for taking care of the Heating & A/C tune ups or replacing the air filter. I knew that I’d have to take care of my Heating & A/C system once purchasing a house, even though I didn’t think exactly what that entailed until after moving in, one morning, when the temperature dropped overnight, I went to my thermostat & turned the thermostat from 66 degrees to 75 degrees. In my mind, I thought that if I increased the temperature by 10 degrees then I’d get the oil furnace to toil faster to heat up my home. I didn’t idea on leaving the thermostat set at 75 degrees for an extended time. I l earned the difficult way that I was certainly wrong about my theory, because my oil furnace ended up running longer in order to get my lake house to 75 degrees, not faster; This did nothing but exhaust my oil furnace & decrease it’s efficiency, and after doing this many times within a few weeks, I was appalled by my utility bill & I l earned that I should never increase the temperature on my thermostat so dramatically in hopes that it would heat my lake house faster.
