Is 75 Degrees The Optimal Temperature?
I always thought it was an urban myth that if you set your temperature control to 75 degrees while I was in the Winter weeks that your gas furnace would run at optimal efficiency.
I don’t think where I originally heard this, however it was something that I caught myself living by even though I didn’t have any proof to back this theory up.
For a long time I felt easily guilty about turning the temperature past 75 degrees because in my mind, I would be wasting money. I also distraught that I would be hurting my gas furnace because it would be running aggressively to heat my house, during my last Heating plus A/C tune up though, I decided to ask the Heating plus A/C professional if setting my temperature control to 75 degrees while I was in the Winter was easily best. I was easily scared about asking him because I didn’t want him to guess less of me, especially if I was believing something that wasn’t true… However, the Heating plus A/C professional told myself and others that the lower I set my temperature control the better. This was for obvious reasons because the lower the temperature, the less strenuous my gas furnace would have to run in order to warm my entire house. He said that all the people advised 75 degrees because it was the average temperature that most homeowners thought was warm and wasn’t deemed as “too cold.” Running my gas furnace at 69 degrees instead of 75 degrees wasn’t going to cause the gas furnace to stop working, even though it really wasn’t going to run as efficiently as if it were set to 75 degrees.
