Use to ride hog, now I ride in the can with AC

In my part of the country, we call riding a real man’s motorcycle “riding hog.” I am not insulting people who ride dirt bikes, or those Asian built crotch rockets built for speed, but I think real men ride Harleys, or custom built choppers. Well, I used to think that but after 40 years of riding hog I actually had to step down as President of my MC (that means motorcycle club, by the way) and stop riding altogether. My lungs were shot from years of huffing exhaust and chain smoking cigars. I needed to have an air filtration system in place at all times to help my breathing, which meant no more riding on the open road on a chopper. After a few weeks of sulking at home I realized I couldn’t just stay indoors forever, and if I couldn’t ride I could still drive, in a van with an AC system and air filters. I could even ride with the club, and the van could carry the supplies we needed and give me a reason to tag along. It is a very different experience, driving cross country with climate control instead of having the wind in my face. Just as hard as giving up the hog has been giving up the smoking, because enhanced air quality is the order of the day, every day, for the rest of my days. Even when I am at home I will always keep an air filter running nearby at all times, and at night I turn on a humidifier before I go to bed
