It’s definitely not the worst thing in the world, but I have a brother who is brutally honest.

Usually when I know I need to know the truth, I call him up to get his opinion on things.

When I was talking to my wife about getting an HVAC system upgrade, she said it probably wasn’t necessary. I even asked a few friends and they said I should probably run the thing until it finally quit on me. They said there was no use upgrading it if it was still working fine. I finally decided to call my brother up and have him look at my HVAC system. After listening to it run and asking me about my energy bills, he told me the thing definitely needed to be replaced. He was telling me that my energy bills shouldn’t be so high, especially with the high efficiency of the newer HVAC models. When he was explaining to me that there were a lot of good options for upgrades and that I definitely would be saving a tremendous amount of money on the energy bills, I was actually kind of excited to upgrade to something nice. He even talked about radiant heated floors and how energy efficient that type of heating system happened to be. He was saying that the initial cost would be up there but it was a good investment that I would eventually recover what I put into the upgrade and start saving so much more money over time. That’s exactly why I always end up talking to my brother because he never holds back when it comes to important things like that.
