Old ladies hat club needs emergency AC

In my town there is a very old, very well respected local community service charity called the Red Hat Society.

It is exclusively female, and no one can be a full meeting until they turn 40 years old.

It is a very powerful organization, that raises a lot of money and has a lot of influence over local politics. My wife was a fledgling member of the Red Hats, and in three years planned on becoming a full member. Since it is very exclusive, she needed all the attention she could get, and ended up calling me for help one night. They were having their weekly banquet and the central AC had died mid-meal. Everyone was too polite to leave, and they needed some emergency air conditioning repair. As you all know, I am an A/C tech by trade, and have worked for a local dealership for some ten years now. My wife told me the Red Hats would be very grateful to the both of us if I could come over ASAP and get the air conditioner working again. Seeing what an opportunity this was I loaded by HVAC kit into the van and drove right over. As luck would have it, there was only a small problem with a couple of defective switches, and I had the cooling system operational within ten minutes. The woman in charge of the Red Hats took out her checkbook and offered to pay me, but I told her that I was donating my A/C experience to the good causes they represented, and I wouldn’t take any money.
