I absolutely hate going to the laundry room in the basement

Everyone in my apartment building has to do laundry in the same place.

There is only one laundry room for the entire apartment building and it contains seven washing machines, seven dryers, and one very large machine that is strictly for blankets and comforters.

Considering there are about 100 different families in the building, that’s not a lot of space or amenities. I hate going to the laundry room because it always smells bad. The place doesn’t have any heat or AC, so the air is just trapped in the room. There is a small window in the corner of the laundry room, but it doesn’t allow very much air flow. Last year, the building owner bought two box fans for the laundry room, but someone stole them a few days later. If the room had some ventilation or air conditioning, it wouldn’t be terrible, but the musty odor from wet blankets and stale clothing is all you can smell from fifty feet away. The next closest laundromat is about ten blocks away, so I would have to take a cab or an uber. They have heat and AC and they are open 24 hours a day. They even have a little diner in the back of the place with snacks and drinks. Still, that’s about twenty dollars more to do my laundry and that’s an expense that I cannot afford. I look forward to a day when I have my own house and my own laundry room. Of course with two more years left in college, that day is still pretty far away.
