There are times when I wonder about my own sanity, not to mention my partner’s faculties. Now, please note that we do a fine job holding full-time positions and navigating public lives as demanded by society. But that being said… a lot of things that happen at our house are absolutely ludacris. We can be so dense at times, it hurts to even repeat some of our mistakes. Most recently, we decided that before we went on vacation, we were going to start paying so much money for our extremely high energy bills by changing out our thermostat. Not only were the thermostat settings way too demanding for our unreliable heating, cooling, and air quality control system, but the 20 year old thermostat itself could use an upgrade. We decided to quickly have a professional heating, cooling, and ventilation technician install a brand-new smart air temperature control device so that the temperature control equipment could be more easily regulated from afar. We were also stoked to use the energy-efficient settings that we did not have to worry about resetting over time. Before our trip, we were really trying to simplify our indoor air quality management for peace of mind. Unfortunately, the alteration went in the wrong direction and the energy bill somehow increased. Just as he was about to call the local heating and cooling repair shop, I realized that we never actually turned down the thermostat to “eco” mode before we left the house for vacation.
