The charcoal a/c filters are not necessarily the best
Decided to give the filter a try because it was featured as working long with smell absorption in the home.
We all thought at some point that charcoal was the perfect solution to every single problem. This was then backed by an explosion in charcoal products over the last decade. There was a time when it was a key ingredient in everything from toothpaste to filters. Some time back I even bought these little unique sacks that were filled with charcoal flakes. They worked based on the idea that you would take the charcoal filled bag and place it inside a drawer or in a smelly closet. The charcoal was then intended to absorb the smells. I never got to try one of these inside of a drawer so I’m not sure how great they would have been. However, I always put one inside the closet and it didn’t appear to make a difference. However it wasn’t long after I discovered a new product that utilized the same in crystals form. I came across an a/c filter with a layer of charcoal crystals on it once when I was trying to buy a modern filter for my Heating, Ventilation and A/C system. Decided to give the filter a try because it was featured as working long with smell absorption in the home. The idea is that smells in your air would get absorbed into the charcoal as air passes through the Heating, Ventilation and A/C system. The filters worked perfectly in my home for a few years, especially for pet smells. However, the activated charcoal filter started to fail in quality and even shedded the charcoal crystals into the air conditioner unit. Those can get stuck in the evaporator coil plus then you run into expensive disfigurement.
