There was a huge rat’s nest in the outdoor HVAC unit

In my free time, I always volunteer my services to the less fortunate and the elderly. This is something that my mom taught me from a young age. When she wasn’t at work, or taking care of things at home, she’d be at the shelter lending a hand, or helping the elderly. There was this lovely couple who lived a few doors from us. Every end of the month, mom would pass by, ask what they needed as they had a chat, and she’d go to the store to buy them supplies to last the month. Dad also went to their home now and then to make sure everything was running smoothly. He was a handyman and fixing things was his speciality. I think this spirit of giving back came from them, and I always look forward to such acts of charity. I now work as an HVAC professional for a local heating and cooling business. In my free time I go to different homes in the area and offer my services. I mostly identify those who are in need, and the elderly who may not remember to book HVAC maintenance on time. At first, I never mentioned to my boss that I do this, but later I came clean about it. She wasn’t unhappy at all and even offered me free parts for any of the repairs that I was doing. This all happened when I went to see this old couple whose AC had failed. I checked the indoor unit and all seemed okay. However, there was a huge rat’s nest in the outdoor HVAC unit. A rat had nibbled on the wiring and this caused the AC to fail. I needed a few replacement parts and spoke to my boss about this matter.
