Ever since I was a kid, I enjoyed going to work with my dad when I was not in school.

He worked as an independent heating and cooling technician .

This meant he was his own boss, so it was easier for me to tag along when he was going to work. Many residents knew me and always had treats waiting when dad was going to their homes. I’d sit in the kitchen chatting with them, or be with dad handing him tools and stuff. As I grew older, I started to think about what to do with my life. Dad had mentioned going to college to become a plumber, electrician or HVAC technician. He said times were different so I had to go to school if I wanted to work in the HVAC industry. He also said he’d want me to work with a company and not be an independent technician like him. While he did have much freedom, there is so much I could learn working for a HVAC company. I took all this in mind, went to HVAC college, and got my HVAC certification. I then went on to work for a local HVAC company, and it’s now been 2 decades on the job. Dad is still around, but his memory is slowly fading. We used to love talking shop and I’d tell him all the changes happening with HVAC technology. Now, we sit by the lake and just listen to music. He bought this lake house a while back and I’m thinking about installing a new cooling unit. The lake house needs something better than a window AC unit although dad doesn’t seem to mind.
