I remember a while back there was quite a foul smell coming from my air conditioning system every time I turned it on.

I was afraid that some sort of animal had gotten into the system and was leaving droppings or urine.

Perhaps something had even died in the air vents! Well I wasn’t prepared to go investigating myself. I wasn’t sure at that point whether I should call animal control or an HVAC technician, because the smell truly was funky, and I strongly suspected animals were responsible, dead or alive. I ended up settling on calling out an HVAC technician. The HVAC technician was able to come out to my house rather quickly, which I was grateful for. To my relief, he quickly found that animals had nothing to do with the bad odor emanating from my HVAC system. Still, there was a bad smell, but it was because of a leak in my system that was letting water collect in the HVAC box. This water was dirty and contaminated and was emitting a strong odor. The HVAC technician managed to patch the leak and clean up the water, and I can finally not breathe a bad stench every time I turn on my AC! So, the bad smell and having to deal with it was a mild inconvenience. However, I’m very happy that that’s all it was and I didn’t have to deal with some sort of nasty vermin making its nest in my air vents or just dying somewhere inside the HVAC system!
