HVAC addition gives us breathing room
I’m just so thankful that we didn’t panic. But I have to say, I was right on the brink of just bailing on the house and selling it. When my wife and I bought this house, it came with the reality that it was at the very limit of our budget. And that’s sort of being kind as the mortgage was just above the limit that we had agreed upon. On top of that, all of our savings were wrapped up in the down payment and renovations. We had to replace the heating and cooling equipment right away. And there were some other things that also had to be addressed. Yet, we loved our house. And with the new residential HVAC, we were also enjoying the best quality heating and air we had ever experienced. So it came as a bit of jolt when we both had to take pay cuts when the pandemic hit. This put us in a particularly tough financial pinch. It got so bad that I was ready to just unload the house. Thankfully, my wife is much more cool headed and thinks things out. She suggested that instead of selling, we turn the basement into an apartment. All it took was having the HVAC professionals to come out to install a ductless heat pump down there. The basement was finished and had a bathroom as well as its own entrance. So all we had to do was paint, decorate and put some furniture in there. The HVAC company took care of the quality heating and air. Now, we have a great tenant who fits in perfectly. But even better, we’re covering nearly 70 percent of our mortgage payment.
