I’m so pleased with the geothermal heat pump
It sort of took a while before it dawned on me that this could be the last residential HVAC unit I ever have to have installed. The main reason for that is that we chose to go with a geothermal heat pump instead of the more traditional central air conditioning equipment. The geothermal heat pump normally last between 35 and 40 years. So given that we are building this house in our mid 60s, I’m guessing this will be the last HVAC unit we install. The geothermal heat pump caught our fancy some time ago. We just love the thought of such an efficient and sustainable source of heating and cooling. The fact that the geo heat pump uses near constant temperature of the earth to extract heating and cooling energy is incredible. I couldn’t have been more pleased that my husband and I were on the same page when it came to the geothermal heat pump. And I was afraid that we wouldn’t. Like my husband, I’m all about being sustainable and eco friendly when it comes to the HVAC. But the initial cost outlay for a geothermal heat pump is pretty expensive. I was afraid that we might balk at that. However after doing the math, we realized that the geothermal heat pump would pay for itself rapidly. The way we figured it, we’ll pay for the difference of the initial cost outlay within about five years just due to the HVAC savings on utilities. Still, it’s hard to believe that this will be the last residential HVAC that will have to have installed.
