Ductwork and art supplies
Do what you love and you never work a day in your life.
How I hate that expression, which I have found to be 100% false.
I do what I love every single day, and I also work full time at a job I don’t like. The two things have never crossed paths, so what I love to do no one will pay me for, but they will pay me to do things I despise. That is not exactly what the expression was supposed to me, is it? I am very creative and artistic, but the art world doesn’t pay very well. So I pay the bills working for an HVAC contractor, working 8 to 12 hour days in housing developments and shopping malls installing ductwork. This contractor does all kinds of large scale and industrial heating and cooling jobs, but all I do is the ductwork. That’s how much work we get, there is a team of three guys that do nothing but put in air ducts and test them for structural integrity. I don’t even have my HVAC certification, because it was never needed for this position. If I ever want to level up and become a heating and cooling tech I will need to go back to school, but I don’t see that ever happening. That would require taking HVAC classes at night school, and I devote my nights to my art, to offset the dullness of my daily life. Painting at night and air ducts during the day, it’s not a great life but it ain’t half bad.
