Do nursing and assisted living homes have good air quality?

My friend Lisa is considering placing her mom in an assisted living home.

This is not her first choice, but due to circumstances beyond her control, she needs to make a decision soon.

Her mom is suffering from dementia and needs 24-hour care, and unfortunately, Lisa isn’t able to give her the care that she needs. Lisa has a full-time job and a family of her own which would make it difficult for her to take care of her mom. This is not an easy decision for Lisa, hence the reason she has yet to commit to it. Last week, she was feeling down and wanted to chat with me about it, and she voiced her concern about the safety of these homes. She was especially worried about the indoor air quality as there are a lot of elderly people who are at risk for different illnesses living in these facilities. I assured her that nursing homes and assisted living facilities have great HVAC systems, and the air quality is just as good as the air quality in hospitals. In fact, in the state that we live in, it is a requirement to have generators to power HVAC units in assisted living homes, so that they are never without good air quality or comfortable environments for the elderly residents. I don’t know what Lisa’s final decision will be, but at least she can be comfortable knowing that these homes have good HVAC systems as well as good air quality. That alone would give me a tiny bit of peace of mind.
