Each new year, I like to add something to my overall strategy for saving on HVAC cooling.

Where I live, the air conditioning of one’s house is the main focus of our HVAC thinking.

And that’s due to a heat season that can be just completely overwhelming for four months of the year. Without air conditioning, there would simply be no way in which I could even live in this region. And that would be a really sad state of affairs because other than those four blistering months of summer, our weather is awesome. For 8 months of the year, I don’t think you could find farer skis, more sunshine and better temperatures. So, we just simply deal with the heat. But without a plan, the costs of HVAC cooling can get really expensive. And who needs to drain their bank account just trying to get enough HVAC cooling in the summer? Not me, that’s for sure. So, I’ve always made sure the house was tight to keep the HVAC cooling in and the heat out. I make sure that we mitigate the direct sunlight heating with solar shades. And I’ve been mindful of the thermostat. The thermostat is the key and this year, I’m adding a smart thermostat to my strategy. I’ve done my best to either program the digital thermostat or bump the setting up when I go to work. But neither of those efforts can hold a candle to what the smart thermostat is able to do. This piece of HVAC technology will be far better and far more precise managing the HVAC equipment than I ever could be. With the smart thermostat in my corner, I expect to add another 15 percent to my overall HVAC cooling savings this heat season.
