I have been with this company for over 10 years and have seen rare instances of repairs and maintenance, despite the age of the building. My boss wouldn’t fix the roof even after it was leaking water. It was the insurance adjuster who forced him to put on a new roof, as they’ll threaten to cancel your insurance plan if you don’t comply with the improvements. In my home state, a house had to get a new roof after 25 years or face the risk of losing insurance coverage. It makes perfect sense for the insurance company because they don’t want to be paying out of pocket to repair a roof that was negligently left alone years after its reasonable expiration date. That seems like eating expired meat from your fridge and trying to take it back to the store as a return when it makes you violently sick. Unfortunately, our leaky roof wasn’t the only serious problem with this building. The air conditioner and furnace were both ancient until our company announced their plans to replace them. They focused on the furnace first because of the extreme cold temperatures in the area between October and April. Now it’s already May and we were hoping that the new air conditioner would be installed by now. My boss has given us all multiple excuses over the past weeks and we’ve had enough. None of us want to be hot and covered in sweat while we work! Worst of all, I was in my boss’s office the other day and noticed that he had a portable air conditioner inside. I almost lost my composure completely when I saw it, but bit my tongue at the last second before I could say anything negative.
