I worked for 8 years as an HVAC technician, but it wasn’t my dream job
It became a bit frustrating when I had to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up, so I took the easy route, and followed whatever seemed right.
My friend Jake was a Heating and Air Conditioning specialist, so I followed his lead and he got me a job working for his company.
Jake absolutely enjoyed what he did, in fact, before I became an HVAC specialist, he would talk about all kinds of HVAC related issues that he had with old furnaces, air conditioning and heating systems, air filters, air vents, thermostats, air quality and whatever else he could think of at the time. With the way he went on and on about being an HVAC specialist, I thought he was initiated into some kind of top-secret club. It wasn’t until I became a specialist that I found out that there was nothing special about the job – it was just like any other. I didn’t share Jake’s love for the job, therefore, I wanted to quit being an HVAC specialist many times. At that time, money was tight, so I had to continue to work for far longer than I would have liked. I worked for over 8 years before I was able to land my dream job. I was extremely happy to leave to start that new chapter in my life. Jake, on the other hand, is quite content and still to this day likes being an HVAC specialist, which is something that I will never understand. The last time we chatted, he mentioned that he would like to start his own Heating and Air Conditioning company, but he has not yet done so because he feels that he would miss the thrill of repairing those broken HVAC systems.
