It’s not that I’m exactly anti technology.

I mean, that would just be stupid.

Like most folks, I rely on technology almost hourly. Yet, I do tend to be a bit hesitant when it comes to just adding more technology to our home just because we can. This differs greatly from the rest of my family and they think I’m simply some sort of cave man. And I can sort of see their point. The smart thermostat situation is a great example. To my wife and kids, my refusal to add a smart thermostat was just dumb. Why not add some HVAC technology that allows for hands off management of the HVAC equipment? The smart thermostat learns household patterns and will adjust the HVAC output to those patterns. And I don’t have to fool with managing the thermostat. Plus, the cost of the smart thermostat had come down from the earlier models now that there were so many to choose from. Yet still, I held out on the smart thermostat. Perhaps it’s just that I felt that there are some things that we all ought to just do for ourselves. Is technology supposed to take over all of our efforts and responsibilities. And there is the fact that sometimes technology can add problems you don’t foresee. But I was wrong on all counts when it came to the HVAC technology in the smart thermostat. I finally gave in and had the HVAC company install a smart thermostat. Not only does it work as advertised, it’s saving me more than 15 percent each month on HVAC utility costs.
