I’m so thankful for the kindness of strangers. Without nice people on this earth, where would both of us be? I suppose that I would be paying crazy high heating bills again this winter. This is something I suppose for a fact because I had no idea how to prepare for a northern winter. I’m from the west where winter is just not a big deal unless you live in the mountains. Where I came from we had a heat pump and it came on now and again while in the winter. So when I took a task on the other side of the country and went up north, I had no idea what I was absolutely getting into. But man, did I ever get a quick rude awakening. We moved in the fall and I was instantly startled by how cool it was already. This was not a nice sign of things to come. Fortunately, the previous owner believed in absolutely nice residential HVAC. The home had a furnace that was just two years old. The realtor advised me to get the HVAC supplier to do the heating service which I promptly had done. But that’s all I knew to do. I had no way to prepare the house. So there were some spaces that were allowing freezing air in and the heating to escape. That first winter saw the furnace running near non stop and yet there was such a draft that both of us were absolutely freezing that whole winter. Thankfully, a nice neighbor straightened me out and we chased down that heating goblin together. It’s going to be a much warmer winter this year.
