Can the weather damage my air conditioner?

One of the biggest investments the homeowner can make, other than their home, is the HVAC system inside their home.

Not only is the HVAC system expensive to purchase, but it also requires expensive maintenance.

It is common sense that most homeowners want their HVAC system to last a long time, considering everything they put into it. Many homeowners find it daunting to think about the longevity of their HVAC system. They will do anything necessary to keep their HVAC in good shape. My sister took this a couple steps too far. She was worried about the air conditioning unit, and it being outside in the weather all the time. I tried to convince her that air conditioning units are made to be outside, but I wasn’t a HVAC technician. She called the HVAC to come out and inspect the furnace after one particularly hard thunderstorm. When he arrived, he asked what was wrong with the AC unit. She told him that there was a lot of wind and rain that had assaulted her air conditioning unit and she wanted it inspected for damage. The HVAC tech went out to inspect the AC unit, but not before he had a chat with her. He explained that the AC unit was made to be outside. Unless it is damaged by a tornado or some other anomaly of weather, it should be fine. He showed her how most of the important parts were well protected, and the air vents were only there to allow the heat from the motor, to escape the unit.
