Work retreat – terrible drive with coworkers

Sometimes I think that I’m just not meant to interact with other human beings.

I don’t have any kind of problem with my own species, but it seems like we have connection errors.

Whenever I’m speaking, I see my peers’ eyes glaze over. Whenever they start talking, I couldn’t be less interested. Unfortunately, being a modern professional makes this a difficult problem to have. As much as I would like to avoid all of my co-workers and colleagues, it’s not permitted. Now I know, this can create even bigger issues when you’re forced to share a space and a thermostat with them. I think most of us have run into office thermostat disagreements before. Some of the people like indoor air to be nice and cold, and some people appreciate it being extremely warm. This can cause a lot of tension and toxicity around the office air temperature control system. However, it can get even worse. Last week my boss insisted that we go on a company trip together for team building. Well, the only team that we managed to build was a diehard group of HVAC haters. You see, from the moment that we started driving together, it was clear that there were two very different opinions about indoor air temperature control in the car. The driver did not appreciate using indoor air temperature control systems at all. The person riding shotgun was continually turning the AC up higher and higher. Meanwhile, the folks in back were begging for heat and rolling down their windows for warmer air. We didn’t even make it to the conference before we were fighting over the thermostat – just like at the office.
