When my sibling went into the service, I didn’t realize it was going to be many years before I would see him again.

He went right from boot camp to overseas, where he spent the next many years.

In that time, I had graduated from high university & gone to a technical university for Heating, Ventilation, & A/C certification classes. I already had my Heating, Ventilation, & A/C certification & had a year of on-the-job training by the time my sibling got home. I loved the job I was doing & the people I was laboring with. I thought I had the perfect job. I knew I was able to do the job that all the people else was doing, however then my sibling came home. He was the same large sibling he always was. He never thought I would amount to much & that I should just grow up & become a housewife with a husband who could take care of me. You can’t imagine how shocked he was when he realized I had gone to Heating, Ventilation, & A/C university & was now laboring in the local Heating, Ventilation, & A/C company. He thought I should be embarrassed to be laboring with these men. I was talking currency out of their pockets & food off their tables. He thought they were only putting up with my laboring there because I was a woman & part of an affirmative action group of women. There wasn’t anything I could do to convince him that I was there because I was enjoyable at my job. When he realized I was laboring with some old pals of his, he chose to talk to them. My coworker told him that he was proud to work with me.
