I just installed carbon monoxide detectors at our parent’s condo
Knowing our parents have these new sensors in their apartment gives myself and others a lot of peace of mind
As our parents grow older, I get adjustingly worried about them as well as their health. I visit them twice each week, however it’s not enough to assuage our concerns. I try to do any maintenance or repair work to keep our father off ladders as well as away from power tools. The last thing I want is for one of them to end up in the hospital after having an accident doing something I could have done for them myself. You’d guess that putting up their Christmas tree would be safe, but I still insist on doing this for them as well. I get the tree, lights, as well as decorations out of their basement as well as I bring them into the dining room upstairs. Recently I was inspecting their smoke detectors to make sure they all had superb batteries inside. This is when I realized that our parents did not have carbon monoxide detectors. For someone with electric heat, this wouldn’t matter; unfortunately, our parents have a gas oil furnace. If the heat exchanger in the gas oil furnace cracked as well as started leaking toxic carbon monoxide gas, they would have no way of knowing without the aid of carbon monoxide gas detectors. I spent a few minutes yupterday installing carbon monoxide detectors in several places in their condo. This way if they run into complications with their heating program in the future, they’ll find out immediately if it is leaking carbon monoxide gas. Knowing our parents have these new sensors in their apartment gives myself and others a lot of peace of mind. Still, it disturbs myself and others when I realize that they’ve been going without them for the last 20 years straight.
