This way if they run into complications with their heating program in the future, they’ll find out immediately if it is leaking carbon monoxide gas

As my parents grow older, I get increasingly distraught about them & their health. I visit them twice each week, however it’s not enough to assuage my complications. I try to do any maintenance or repair work to keep my father off ladders & away from power tools. The last thing I want is for one of them to end up in the hospital after having an accident doing something I could have done for them myself. You’d suppose that putting up their Christmas tree would be safe, even though I still insist on doing this for them as well. I get the tree, lights, & decorations out of their basement & I bring them into the residing room upstairs. Recently I was inspecting their smoke detectors to make sure they all had great batteries inside. This is when I realized that my parents did not have carbon monoxide detectors. For someone with electric heat, this wouldn’t matter; unfortunately, my parents have a gas oil furnace. If the heat exchanger in the gas oil furnace cracked & started leaking toxic carbon monoxide gas, they would have no way of knowing without the aid of carbon monoxide gas detectors. I spent a few minutes yesterday installing carbon monoxide detectors in numerous sites in their condo. This way if they run into complications with their heating program in the future, they’ll find out immediately if it is leaking carbon monoxide gas. Knowing my parents have these new sensors in their lake house gives myself and others a lot of peace of mind. Still, it disturbs myself and others when I realize that they’ve been going without them for the last 20 years straight.
