The first test? Sending them to my mother-in-laws house

Several years ago when I opened my own heating, cooling, and air quality control repair shop I knew that it was going to be challenging.

  • There was no doubt that managing a horde of HVAC technicians would be rather stressful and time-consuming.

I worried more about the financial aspects of the heating and cooling company at first. It seemed like accruing the most high-quality indoor air handling appliances and keeping detailed records of every year heating, cooling, and ventilation control appointment was going to be the most challenging part of my job. However, I quickly found out that hiring the right indoor air quality control specialist was a lot more difficult than anything else. It’s easy for these kids to attend the local heating, cooling, and ventilation repair program at our community trade school. They graduate with a certification and heating and cooling appliance repair in only two years. After that, however, these children aren’t necessarily ready to enter residential homes to perform the heating and cooling repairs, installation, and maintenance services. In fact, a lot of them should never be in the heating and cooling industry at all. In order to more efficiently sift through my potential heating and cooling technicians, I started coming up with my own HVAC tests. These days, test number one is extremely challenging. Go to my mother-in-law’s house and diagnose her heating and cooling system. She will complain endlessly about imaginary hot and cold patches, not to mention the smells you’re introducing to her indoor air. If you can make it out of that situation alive, I will consider giving you a full-time job.
