I rent a room downtown. I can’t afford to rent an apartment myself so I just have one of the rooms in a three-bedroom apartment. The owner of the apartment has been acting pretty crazy lately though. She refuses to run the air conditioner. She is terrified of covid-19 and she found out that air conditioners can spread the virus through the ductwork. I told her that we could get a really strong air filter to combate this but she won’t hear it. I am positive she would just kick me and the other renter out if she could afford to do so. She’s terrified one of us is going to bring home the virus. She even wears a mask inside at all times and she’s constantly wiping down the entire house. I don’t know where she’s getting these disinfectant wipes from. I haven’t been able to find any for months now. But this thing with the air conditioner is getting a little bit out of hand. It’s been 90 degrees for weeks now and still she refuses to let us turn the air conditioner on. Instead, every window in the house is open and the fans are running non-stop. I’m thinking about getting a window air conditioning unit for my room but I don’t want the apartment owner to get mad. I’m not sure that she would though. After all, I don’t see how a window unit hurt anything. It would only cool air in my room, not throughout the whole house. So any virus I might have would still be confined to my room only.
