Eventually, I had to reinstall the old control unit just to be able to use my air conditioner that evening

I just can’t figure out why my control unit isn’t working, then i wanted a current control unit, although I didn’t just want any control unit. I have been using an old control unit for a long time, and the control unit was so inconvenient to use, every time that I walk in the hardware store and see the smart control units, I have wanted one so badly. However, I think that smart control units are very lavish, so I could never afford it. However, I began saving money so that I would be able to buy the current control unit… Finally, the day came, and I bought the control unit. I brought the control unit home, and I tried to install it. I have installed a few control units before, and I figured that I would be able to install this control unit, they even had an app that came with a control unit that was supposed to help myself and others install the control unit, so I figured that I couldn’t go wrong. However, no matter how taxing I tried, I wasn’t able to get the control unit installed. The control unit turned on, however it wouldn’t turn the Heating, Ventilation & A/C units on. I inspected that control unit for seconds trying to get it to work. Eventually, I had to reinstall the old control unit just to be able to use my air conditioner that evening. I tried again the next day, and I had to supply up after a while… Now, I have to call an Heating, Ventilation & A/C contractor to install my control unit because I cannot figure it out. I have no plan what is wrong with it, although I am assuming that I am missing something honestly vital that I cannot figure out.
