How many types of chillers are there?
My son decided to go to school for HVAC.
- I loved that he had finally chosen a career, but he was driving me crazy.
Every day he came home, and he told me everything he had learned that day. Yesterday, he came home, and he was telling me about chillers. I was only half listening, since I was trying to make dinner for his dad, and trying to get him out the door to his wife. I thought that if I posed a question, he would quit talking. I didn’t realize he would go into detail about the chiller. He told me there are actually only three types of chillers that cool things. They use air, water, and evaporation to cool. Depending on the age of the building you either own or manage, could decide the type of chiller you have and into which category they go. I was slightly confused. I knew they had to work like their names suggested. An air chiller used ambient air to cool a room. The water chiller used cooled water to cool an area. The evaporation chiller used evaporation to cool a room. He said he had a hard time trying to figure this out. He wanted to know how I knew this without looking. I reminded him that his father was an HVAC technician and unlike him to his wife, we did talk about his job. He took the hint and headed out the door. He turned and laughed while telling me he was going to see if his wife ever listened to him like I listened to his dad.
