The static value of homeownership has taken a substantial hit over the last decade or so.

The risks plus responsibilities of owning a home is strenuous to rationalize given the limited return on investment. Unfortunately, the catastrophic Heating plus A/C failure plus subsequent replacement is out there waiting to happen. My partner plus I have been super blessed in that sense. We are not eager to mess with that blessed streak we’ve been having. The couple of dwellings that we have owned were sold for a good profit, and our last dwelling was just barely able to sell even given the way things are. Additionally, my partner plus I are getting up there in age, so neither of us trust getting into another dwelling right now. It is not out of the question but, there’s no rush. There’s plenty more time in life to downsize before considering another dwelling. It’s amazing how much stuff you can accumulate over the course of a lifetime. I think that we’ll take a break from all the chores and responsibilities for awhile and let someone else cut the shrubbery plus schedule the Heating plus A/C repair appointments. Speaking of Heating plus A/C systems, this system is the worst we’ve experienced since we’ve been together. It’s actually ridiculous. The system is so old that the SEER rating is not even posted on it. We’ve complained a couple times to the rental company about how weak plus inefficient the Heating plus A/C equipment is, but they haven’t responded. While the two of us are retired now, we may have to put our lawyer pants back on to get something done around here.
