A drain clog causes my HVAC to shut off
Recently, I came home to quite a surprise.
It seemed that my heating and air conditioning system was not working at all.
It must have shut off at one point while I was at work during the day. I couldn’t figure out for the life of me what the problem was. The thermostat seemed to be in good working order, it’s just that the HVAC system refused to turn on. I checked the air filter and it wasn’t really all that dirty yet. I had changed it just a couple weeks prior. What sort of problem can my air conditioning system be dealing with? I sincerely hoped that it wasn’t a big deal. When I realized that I wasn’t going to be able to figure it out on my own, I went ahead and called out an HVAC technician. Thankfully, the technician came that very same day, and he managed to find the problem very quickly. He discovered that the drain line was all clogged up and it was causing the system to just automatically shut off and not function. I never actually encountered this problem before, and he explained that every now and then, I need to pour a cleaning solution, such as white vinegar down through the drain line to help keep it free of clogs. This would prevent the problem from occurring in the future. He went ahead and took care of all the issues with the air conditioner and I promised him that I would do this in the future to prevent the system from shutting down.
