My HVAC tech needed a helper
Let me make it clear that I am not a landlord, I am a rental property manager.
- This means I don’t own the buildings, I just take care of them and collect the rent for the owners.
I am the property manager for a very sizable downtown apartment building, and I have to say that I keep busy. With thirty six apartments, each one occupied, my to-do list is always very long, and I’m lucky to get through half of it on any given day. I can’t handle everything myself, so I have a small crew of workmen who deal with repairs, upkeep, electrical grids, plumbing, and HVAC systems. It is important to have all of these different experts on my crew, because toilets, air conditioners, and light switches break every single day. My certified HVAC tech is a lady named Edna, and she recently told me that she needed some help. I couldn’t afford to hire a second HVAC tech, but Edna had another idea. Her daughter was taking night classes with an eye towards earning her HVAC certification, and needed some work experience. If we hired this young lady as an HVAC assistant she could learn the job, and handle simple tasks like air filters changes and ductwork cleaning. This would allow Edna to focus more of her time on legit HVAC problems, and less time dealing with fussy tenants. I immediately agreed to this idea, because I knew that Edna really needed the help and I needed to keep my only HVAC tech happy with her job.
