My son plays football for the high school team.

My wife and I have watched every single one of his games since he was a freshman sitting on the bench.

He worked really hard during his sophomore summer, so he could try out for a different spot on the team. He was extremely proud and so were we, when he made the first string cornerback position. He beat out a senior for the first string spot. Each year it seems like the temperatures get colder and colder. This year is Jack’s senior year of high school and my wife and I have not missed a single game. The state championships are going to be determined soon and the kids are doing their best to earn a spot in the playoffs. Jack and the rest of the team have won 11 out of the last 12 games that they played and that should qualify them for a seed in the playoff tournament. Friday night we were at the qualifying game and it was 17 degrees outside. My hands were shaking and I could not feel my fingers at all. I thought that I was going to get frostbite. Thankfully we have some handy battery operated space heaters. I keep one of the battery operated space heaters under my feet and my wife keeps the other space heater under her feet. Still, with the cold air my fingers were freezing. There’s only so much that the heater can do when it is that cold and windy outside. The game next Friday is the district playoffs and that game will be held at night too.
