The dog scared the heck out of me
The dog scared the heck out of me
I don’t regularly go to apartments to help with AC problems.
Most of the apartment buildings around here have a building supervisor or maintenance guy that is HVAC certified.
I got a call from a maintenance supervisor south of town. The guy told me that he needed help installing an AC unit and he didn’t have extra people to do the work. He wondered if I could handle the installation job that day and get it done by myself. I was happy to help and I had the time to help with the commercial HVAC installation job. An apartment AC install does not take very long so I knew I could complete the job before the end of the day. The maintenance guy said he would pop in and out to help with some of the hard stuff too, so I knew that would help with several of the big tasks that would take a while to complete. I asked the building maintenance supervisor for the keys to the apartment. I never asked the guy if there was a dog inside. It completely slipped my mind and the maintenance supervisor failed to tell me that there was a dog inside. When I opened the door, the dog was standing on the other side, ready to pounce on me. Thankfully, the dog was much more friendly than fierce. He didn’t make a very good watch dog but I was pretty scared for a second. I was going to put the dog in one of the bedrooms while I worked on the install, but the dog seemed perfectly calm and happy with me in the room. There was no reason to lock him up for my safety.
