The other day when I went down to the basement to do some laundry, I swore I heard water hitting the floor.

  • When I turned the corner, I abruptly was able to see that water was indeed leaking from the HVAC unit and there was a pool of water at the base of the HVAC equipment.

I instantly went to the temperature control to turn off our cooling system and carefully observed the HVAC unit. I ended up looking online for what this issue could be just in case it was something easy to solve and didn’t require a certified HVAC expert, however sure enough, I found the information I needed on an proper HVAC website where they had a full area talking about what the problem could be with a leaking cooling system. It was saying that the AC coil could be frozen and the thawing action could be causing the leak. The most likely cause of the water leak though would be a blockage in the condensation line. I learn how most basements use a pump to push condensation out of the house, usually through a drain or straight to the outside of the home. So I ended up pulling the condensation line out of the pump and made sure to clear the line of any clogs with our wet vac and when I turned the AC back on and ran it for awhile, there were no more leaks! I’m pretty sure the line was just jammed and I was able to clear it. If I have any troubles with the AC coil though, I’m going to have to call in the professionals, so we’ll see.
