Looked at this past summer as an opportunity to save on HVAC
This past summer was quite a bit better than the summer of 2020.
For one, I didn’t feel cooped up and stuck inside the air conditioning of my house all the time.
Like many others, the pandemic sent me home to work from the air conditioning safety of my house. And there I stayed to try and keep myself healthy from the virus. Plus, I was dealing with a sudden loss of income due to a paycut. So I was all over the place trying to cut costs. That meant that I focused on what I could do about the HVAC cooling costs. This was sort of a slapdash effort to save on the cost of air conditioning and I eventually sort of gave up. Trying to hide inside the air conditioning to keep from getting Covid and having a hot house was just too much. But the idea of saving on HVAC costs didn’t leave me. Our winter is really mild so we don’t really incur all that much when it comes to heating costs. However, as the temperatures began to rise this past spring, I went online to find proactive ways to cut costs on the air conditioning. This way, I went into the summer with a strategy for saving on HVAC costs instead of a desperate swipe at it. Really, it just didn’t take all that much to effort. I replaced the weather stripping around all entrances and windows that had it. I caulked all the gaps and cracks I could find. The shades got pulled to stop direct sunlight heating and I was consistent with the thermostat. The result was a significant saving on HVAC cooling over the summer.
