If you must change the filter every week, be sure to do so as long as there will be clogging of the system and airflow restrictions. Secondly, you also need to clear the air vents and ensure that the outdoor exit to the vents is also evident. Get rid of all potential debris that may find its way to the vents. Also, clear the piling snow and eliminate any substance that threatens to find its way inside the unit. Try to maintain moderate but steady temperatures. Avoid cranking them up or constantly changing the temperatures as this may put too much strain on the furnace, which is not something that you want to deal with during such periods. Furnace maintenance also goes a long way, but this has to be done before the harsh season.
