I thought I had the best HVAC system on the market.

I soon realized that no matter how good the HVAC system is, there are always things that need to be done.

There are also little things that may crop up, and it can’t be anticipated. I learned the hard way, that you don’t always need to call the HVAC company when these things come up. I called the HVAC company because I had a leak in the air conditioning unit. The water seemed to be pouring out When the HVAC technician showed up, he told me I had a clogged condensate drain. He showed me how algae had built up in the drain. He explained how it was normal to have this type of algae bloom, but it needed to be cleaned out every so often. He explained to me how to clear the algae. He also explained how pouring a vinegar and water solution down the drain can help to keep the algae from growing. Had I known about the condensate drain in the air conditioning unit, I would not have needed to call the HVAC company. Who would have known there were small amounts of maintenance a homeowner could do that wouldn’t involve a HvAC technician. Now that I know about the condensate drain, and how the algae builds, I check it quite regularly. I learned how to change my air filters, and I even do a little bit of cleaning on a regular basis. I want my air conditioning unit to work for as long as I own the house.
