A/C tune-up checks to get ready for summer
Summer is almost with us and for many of us homeowners, it is time to check on our HVAC systems and ready them for the hot weather.
I personally have the responsibility of checking on my own unit as well as my unit at my parents’ house.
So I scheduled the check-up a week apart. Initially, my unit did not have any issues apart from the weird noise that kept coming from my unit. The wifi thermostat was functioning fine after I switched up the batteries. The cooling system was otherwise functioning well. To get rid of the weird noise, I cleaned the air conditioning filter as well as the ductwork. The air duct did not have any blockages either. Now, this is why performing the a/c tune-up because I realized that the heat exchanger was covered in rust. Though this was not a big issue, I took up my cooling specialist gear and cleaned off the rust. At the end of the day, my unit was back to 100% operation just like a brand new commercial AC. The next week, I was scheduled to check on my parent’s air conditioning. They had complained that when they were testing it, they noticed that the HVAC duct was expelling hot air instead of the expected chilled air. After cleaning the washable filter, I also checked on the a/c set up on the outside. All through winter and fall, my dad had forgotten to cover the unit, and debris from the trees had fallen on the unit and caused blockages. For this, I had to contact the HVAC servicemen team who had the appropriate tools to clean the unit. The quality air conditioner was back to functioning optimally. Now we are ready for the summer.
