My HVAC system can’t handle MERV 13

My HVAC system can’t handle MERV 13

With four kids in the house I’m concerned that one of them could bring home the covid-19 virus. Especially now that the schools are opening back up. However, I’m a single mother who works full-time and I can’t afford to worry about it too much. I clean the house as much as I can and I also bought a HEPA air purifier for the living room. A co-worker of mine was telling me that her brother got the coronavirus and they use a Merv 13 air filter or their HVAC system. That’s what was recommended by the CDC. Apparently the Merv 13 air filter can capture viruses and bacteria in the air instead of spreading them throughout the house. Her brother also had to wear a mask at all times. Fortunately, no one else in the house caught the virus. I looked into getting a Merv 13 air filter for my HVAC system but, after reading my HVAC specifications, I found out that this air filter is too strong for my HVAC system. It will make my HVAC system work too hard. I have to get an air filter with a slightly lower rating. That concerns me a bit. I’m not sure that the lower rating Merv will trap the covid-19 virus if it gets into my house. However, I really can’t afford to get a new HVAC system installed either. However, I know some of these HVAC companies have payment plans. So I’m really thinking about doing it anyway. After all, it would save me money if it keeps me from getting sick.
