Becoming unofficial roommate since electricity is so bad at home
Finally, I can get my work done when I plan to.
I am in a particularly unique living situation right now. By that, I mean that I live nowhere and everywhere at once. Sometime last year, I moved into a friend’s house when my relationship abruptly ended. They were kind enough to let me use their spare bedroom, and I never left. I began paying them, and I started living there full-time. I truly enjoy staying in that home, but there are a few complications. For starters, the property is surrounded by tall trees, and we often suffer from power outages. When the power lines are taken down by large limbs, we can lose power for up to four days. This means, no lights, no cooking, and no indoor air temperature control. I can’t work from home, and I can’t moderate my temperature to concentrate, anyways. It gets very complicated when you are trying to run a small business, and can’t rely on your basic home functionality. That’s why, I have recently started splitting my time between that property and my boyfriend’s house. For the past several months, I’ve been slowly moving my life into his place. He lives in the city, where there are no tall trees, and therefore I can rely on the electricity and HVAC system. Finally, I can get my work done when I plan to. I can adjust my indoor air temperature with the turn of a dial, rather than freezing or sweating through the day. I love this new setup of having a fluid living situation, but I wish that I could rely on HVAC to keep working efficiently in one place, rather than hauling my life around based on the weather. I’m sure my boyfriend’s roommates feel the same.
