Why you should not wrap your a/c during the winter
Each Spring our company is easily busy. My nice friend and I handle at least 10 appointments a day and each one takes over an hour. My nice friend and I are a smaller Heating, Ventilation and A/C dealership so my buddy and I only have four servicemans on staff and they are always out on maintenance or trouble calls. One call that my buddy and I get each Spring confuses me because my buddy and I keep reminding our clients that they are harming their Heating, Ventilation and A/C equipment by wrapping it in plastic. For some reason multiple homeowners have decided that they need to completely wrap their exterior a/c equipment during the winter season to keep the snow out. Would you request making a cover of sorts however it should be made out of wood or something that can breathe because the heat pump within the exterior equipment operates all year long. By wrapping the exterior equipment you cause moisture to build up within it and it causes harm that must be repaired costing homeowners money in the long run. To avoid heavy snow buildup on top of the exterior equipment you can simply make a wooden box that leaves plenty of room around it to breathe however does not allow the snow to rest directly on top of it. I have even seen covers that are solid on the top however that use lattice sides so that air can circulate freely around the unit. This type of design keeps debris such as leaves and sticks that may fall from trees off of being equipment as well. Each time that my buddy and I arrive at a apartment and see a plastic tarp tied tightly around the exterior a/c equipment my buddy and I just cringe because my buddy and I know when my buddy and I take it off it’s going to be a mess.
