Easy tips to keep your cooling system condenser clean

Most homeowners can accomplish minor repair and repairs on their own if they are smart enough to read and follow a few basic tips.

I decided that I would try to clean the condenser on my cooling system myself after studying the manual and following a few online tips. First and foremost you need to constantly make sure to turn the power off to the unit before trying to do anything relating to cleaning it. The manual instructed me on how to do this using the kill switch that was installed not far from the outside unit. Once that was done I was able to unlink the exterior housing and expose the condenser to begin the cleaning process. First I was able to use a Shop-Vac to unlink the leaves and debris that have blown in over the course of the winter and following that I begin cleaning the condenser coils themselves. The website I evaluated recommended using a simple cleaner solution and using care in cleaning so that I didn’t bend any of the panels on the condenser. By performing this simple job the unit will run more efficiently and I made sure to change the filter once I completed the job as well. I will still have my system repaird at least once a year however at least I know I am doing the best I can to improve its efficiency and prolong the life of the unit. Taking care of simple things like cleaning and changing filters yourself can save you a significant amount of money in the long run because your system will more than likely need less repairs.
