Each Spring our company is truly busy.

We handle at least 10 appointments a day and each one takes over an hour.

We are a smaller Heating, Ventilation & A/C dealership so my friend and I only have four specialists on staff and they are constantly out on repair or trouble calls. One call that my friend and I get each Spring confuses me because my friend and I keep reminding our customers that they are harming their Heating, Ventilation & A/C unit by wrapping it in plastic. For some reason numerous homeowners have decided that they need to completely wrap their exterior air conditioner unit during the winter to keep the snow out. Would you advocate making a cover of sorts however it should be made out of wood or something that can breathe because the heat pump within the exterior unit operates all year long. By wrapping the exterior unit you cause moisture to build up within it and it causes detriment that must be repaired costing homeowners money in the long run. To avoid heavy snow buildup on top of the exterior unit you can simply make a wooden box that leaves plenty of room around it to breathe however does not allow the snow to sit directly on top of it. I have even seen covers that are solid on the top however that use lattice sides so that air can circulate freely around the unit. This type of design keeps debris such as leaves and sticks that may fall from trees off of being unit as well. Each time that my friend and I arrive at a property and see a plastic tarp tied tightly around the exterior air conditioner unit my friend and I just cringe because my friend and I know when my friend and I take it off it’s going to be a mess.
