The growing trend of purchasing most of what we need online has become so popular that many big box stores are going out of business.

Years ago I thought that I would never fall into that habit but now I really enjoy the convenience of having items arrived at my door. Free shipping and other discounts make it even easier to become addicted to shopping in this manner. However, there are some items that it is still best to check out in person instead of relying on online reviews and measurement specifications that you read online. I learned this the hard way when I ordered new filters for my HVAC system only to find that they did not fit. I had read carefully the description and even checked the specifications page so they seemed like they would be the right ones. When they arrived they were too thick for the space that they needed to fit into so I had to pay shipping to send them back. After going to the post office I headed to my local HVAC dealer where he had the perfect ones in stock. I told him how I had tried to save money by ordering them online and ended up paying more because of the additional shipping. He assured me that he always kept a good stock of various filters and they would always be available if I stopped in. Not only will I always be able to get a properly fitted filter but I will be supporting local businesses at the same time. I think more people should look into dealing with smaller shops in their area because if not many of those will go away as well. You get the convenience of not paying shipping, getting the item right away, and getting expert advice when needed and all of those are priceless.
