Moving to an older but cheaper house seems like the best move in this situation. It’s the best I could do with all rentals appearing to be too extravagant in my area. I got the first home that would accept me on the rental application. Note that it is not a cheap process. The applying phase for all of these rentals can be painstaking. You have to spend money/ application fees & also deal with the issue of your credit score when potential landlords check your credit as required by the process. It can be a stressful experience attempting to find a rental on the first site. So that was why I quickly jumped to sign the lease for my new house I was interested in. The mistake made here was assuming that I could easily have a better experience renting a house instead of renting a normal apartment. But this old home comes with several concerns that might not be present in an apartment. The one thing I don’t like when dealing with this old house is its aged heating & cooling system. The A/C is extremely bad and fails to keep the house cool in the Summer. In the same manner, the electric furnace is not so good at warming the house in the winter. Besides that, it also releases a small one when it’s been off for a long time. This could be because of lots of dust & microbial content building up on the inside of the heat exchanger. It then starts to burn off when you turn on the furnace again. It would take a few months of inactivity for such an effect to occur.
