Practice area with air conditioning
This past weekend, we didn’t have the best practices.
My bandmate wasn’t in the best frame of mind, and it permeated the entire weekend of practice.
He is completely broke and depends on making music to make ends meet, which puts undue pressure on us as musicians and detracts from the performance aspect. He absolutely needs to get a regular job and start earning money so that I can just concentrate on playing and not worry about making money. I don’t depend on the money my friend and I earn from playing music, plus it is much less stressful. My main tasks are gas furnace repairs and fireplace cleaning, and my bandmate needs to find the same kind of thing so he won’t constantly push us to make money when my friend and I perform. He is a fantastic musician but a terrible businessman and has no idea how to find work. I gave him a job servicing heating systems, but the boss of the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning rep got tired of him showing up to work consistently late or not at all, so he let him go. I can only do so much by giving him a task, and I also can’t hold his hand all the time because I have my own work to do every day. He was doing great with his heated floor installations, but after a few weeks, he started skipping work or not arriving at the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C corporation at all on some afternoons. I believe that a musician simply needs to make music. You cannot take the musician’s music away from him.
