And then, my lease was up as well. I just didn’t see how I was going to be able to keep my apartment after having been let go at work. This was the early days of the pandemic and I was sort of beside myself. I was just in my second year of working inside the zone controlled HVAC of that downtown office. Out of all the interns that worked in that office, I was the only one to be hired on as a full time associate. This was where I was going to make my bones in this industry and become successful. My dad was super proud of me as well. So it was really hard for me to even discuss the fact that I had been pink slipped by the company. Initially, we were all sent home from that zone controlled HVAC to work remotely. But the rumors turned out to be true and the last ones in were the first ones out which included me. I was able to get a few online gigs in order to just hang on. But I was also tapping my savings and considering getting a roommate just to pay the rent. I don’t know how dad found out but he called me up one day. He suggested that maybe I move home and we turn the basement into a cool apartment during the pandemic. That’s when I told him about being laid off without the possibility of rehire and I jumped at the chance to come home. Dad and I indeed turned his basement into a really cool apartment. The HVAC professionals came out and installed a ductless heat pump that provided the heating and cooling the basement didn’t have.
