My wife doesn’t often just really go off on me. But when she does, it’s not for effect or any sort of dramatic reason. She goes off when she’s had enough and I’m not listening. I came home from work the other night and did what I do just about every night. I changed clothes and then plopped on the couch to soak up some of the great central air conditioning in our home. That’s when my wife walked in from spending her day inside the commercial HVAC of a very busy office. And her withering glare prompted me to say something stupid. I told her, in a most entitled tone, that I was just enjoying some air conditioning before I got to my chores. That lit the fuse and the rest was a very calculated and credible dismantling of my actual household efforts. She immediately asked me when the last time I changed the air filter for the HVAC equipment since I love the air conditioning so much. I couldn’t answer that one and gave some sort of feeble reply. My wife then followed up with a question about who called for the HVAC maintenance every season. Again, I was at a loss but I had a pretty good sense that it wasn’t me. My wife then started listing case by case the stuff that I’m supposed to be handling around the house. It was actually a bit embarrassing and I ended up just shutting my mouth. My partner was one hundred percent correct in letting me have it. I’ve got some changing to do when it comes to helping out. And I’m starting with the HVAC responsibilities as those have always supposed to have been on me.
