Without air conditioning, I can't last more than a day
It is safe to say that heating and cooling our home account for the majority of our utility costs.
My HVAC system actually consumes 52% of the energy I use each month, according to the data my utility company sends me on a monthly basis regarding my energy use.
Due to the heat where I live in the southern part of the country, my HVAC system is constantly running. My HVAC system is the other piece of equipment in my house that runs the most, aside from my refrigerator, which is always on. I also use my HVAC system constantly because I spend the majority of the year working from home. I rely on it to keep me cool while I work during the day, and it keeps my bedroom cozy when I go to sleep at night. I suppose I could survive without my refrigerator, microwave, and even my stove, but I doubt I could survive without my air conditioning system. During a power outage following a storm, I went without air conditioning for the longest period of time. Even though I was without power for three full days, I was unable to function after the first day. The best choice I could have made was to reserve a hotel room for two days, which is what I ultimately did. In fact, I watched the local news in my hotel room while they were reporting on how angry the locals were that the power company couldn’t give them a time frame for when the power would be restored. Therefore, the majority of those without generators or those who could not leave their homes to go somewhere else were forced to stay inside without access to air conditioning.
